About The Coin and Stamp Place

We are Kim and David Newell, from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. We operate a family business, known as The Coin and Stamp Place, the only specialist coin and stamp shop in Tasmania.  Our backgrounds are in banking, customer service and project work.  Our hobbies are golf, guitar, music (David) and ballroom dancing and walking (Kim).

The Stamp Place was established in 1979 and was operated by David's parents (Raelene and Rodney) until 1999, when they retired and we took over the reins. Recently we changed the name to The Coin and Stamp Place to better reflect what we do.  We specialise in stamps, coins, medals and postcards from Tasmania, Australia and the pacific region.  However it's amazing what else turns up in our little corner of the world! We also offer regular auctions on eBay (user name tazi.tiger).

We are agents for the Royal Australian Mint and Perth Mint, so we can supply coins at issue price for standing order customers. We have a good range of Australian decimal and pre-decimal coins and tokens. We can also source material from our extensive Australian and overseas contacts. We have coin and banknote albums, pages, catalogues and accessories. Your want lists are most welcome.

We also buy and sell postcards, cigarette cards, Australian Rules Football cards, phonecards, badges, documents, apple labels and other collectables.

Another major part of our business is medal mounting and restoration. We provide a professional medal mounting and framing service.
