2002: Birth Centenary of Albert Namatjira - Prestige Booklet

Price: $ 19.95

2002 "Birth Centenary of Albert Namatjira" Prestige Booklet.

Albert Namatjira was the first Australian indigenous artist to paint and exhibit professionally in a Western style.  He was both prodigious and successful.  During his lifetime he produced some two thousand pictures and founded a school of painting that still continues among his Western Aranda relatives and other Aranda peoples.

This prestige booklet includes sixteen mint stamps plus a mint miniature sheet and two postcards (not postage paid).  The stamps are presented in five panes with decorative borders.  The panes are a miniature sheet, plus four blocks of four stamps - four each Ghost Gum Mt Sonder; Mt Hermannsburg; Glen Helen Country; and Simpsons Gap.  These single design block configurations are only available in the prestige booklet.  Also exclusive to the prestige booklet are the two postcards.

The interleaved pages and borders of the panes include photographs, paintings by Namatjira, and text about his country, culture and people.

Excellent mint condition.

We have a lot more prestige booklets in stock.  Please email for more info.
